Peace Series: The Sum of Our Failures Does Not Outdo God's Mercy (Volume I Devotional #019)
“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3.22-23
In the last few weeks in our Weekly Devotionals, we have devoted ourselves to focusing on Jesus Christ, regardless of what others, or even what we ourselves, think or feel of ourselves to be or not to be in light of a heart and mind sprinkled by the blood of Jesus Christ for obedience and sanctified1 to be about the Father’s business;2 we have chosen to accept the reality that there will be trials and tribulations ahead;3 however, we have devoted ourselves to the fact that doubt is clearly dried up in the Consuming Fire4 of Whom God to be in light of the absolutes of His non-communicable attributes;5 and finally, we have reflected upon that uneasy feeling we get when we are more and more mindful of the presence of God in our lives, and have realized that such an emotional response is an opportunity to cry out to God to purify our hearts and minds, so as, to be conformed more and more into the likeness of Jesus Christ6 and produce the sweetest of the fruit of goodness in our spiritual walk with Christ in light of His Written Word.7
As we reflect upon those moments throughout those past few weeks and recollect when we chose to place our devotion into action: What did you experience? Perhaps, you experienced nothing, and thought, there is nothing happening, I must be doing something wrong. Or maybe, you placed such devotion and faith into practice and have experienced nothing but a continuous barrage of attacks from the Enemy, possibly beyond what you believe you are able to endure. In either instance, you likely feel or even think that the Lord must not like what you are doing or believing. That is certainly a thought to ponder.
Perhaps, my beloved reader, life seems cold and lonely, you feel misunderstood, or not understood at all, and in your endeavor to want to experience the more spiritual and deeper things of God, you have made it your life’s quest to seeking a more meaningful and absolute truth that will allow you to experience a love within your heart and mind for the Lord Jesus Christ to live out the truth in a manner that would enable you to withstand your witness unto death and time and time again you have experienced fear in your heart.
Consider this, my beloved reader, regardless of whatever cold or dry season you are experiencing, whatever provision is low, whatever hope has the appearance of being lost, whatever fears you may have, whatever problem in life that is able to come your way, God’s mercies are new every morning.
The Lord’s mercies towards all of us is the direct result of His compassion and His faithfulness. God’s faithfulness toward you, my beloved reader, is a choice on His part and that choice is not contingent upon anything you are able to accomplish or not accomplish; and therefore, has no ability to change His mind about how much He loves you. Always remember that, my dear reader. No one is able to love you like Jesus Christ loves.
This week, my beloved readers, let us devote ourselves to the thought and belief that all of the mercies, all of the blessings, all of the promises of the Word of God, and any hope for any man to have any access to such great things of God, must first find himself at the foot of the Cross of Jesus Christ and acknowledge that he/she is a sinner. We are all sinners,8 there is none righteous, no, not one,9 and all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.10 God, placed upon Himself, flesh, He manifested Himself in the Person and Work of Jesus Christ,11 He shed His blood for the forgiveness of all sin, so that, all may have free access into the kingdom of His Father to all those who believe and by faith confess the Person of Jesus Christ, His resurrection from the dead by God the Father through the Spirit of Holiness. The Cross of Jesus Christ is the greatest and the sum of all of God’s mercies to mankind. I promise you, my beloved reader, the sum of all your failures does not outdo the greatest of God’s mercies, and all the promises of God are “Yes and Amen”12 in Christ.
Prayer: Gracious Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your many mercies in our lives, for without them, we know that we would be consumed. Thank You, Father, for Your Son, Jesus Christ, Who has given us of His Spirit, and may we be made more and more into the likeness of Your Son. Father, forgive us where we have fallen short, and may we have a heart and mind purified to live in true obedience to Your Word and Holy Ghost. May we never grieve Your Holy Ghost. We thank You and praise You, forever and ever. Amen.
