Faith Series: "God Is Without Beginning or End" (Volume I Devotional #004)
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.” Psalm 19.1-4
Many years ago, I heard a very thoughtful sermon preached by one of the most influential men of God in my life. The sermon was about the consequences of living an eternity without God. He began the sermon by giving an analogy of eternity. He made it very clear that no human being is even able to really conceptualize the time involved with the thought of eternity, but he really wanted everyone to try to realize such an amount of time. In his sermon, he stated, “Imagine, if you will, a sparrow having the flight ability and lifespan of one purpose but to just stack one grain of sand from all the seashores of the earth on top of each other all the way out into space.” He went on to say, “Now imagine the amount of time it would take for this sparrow in its flight, just to pick up one grain of sand to reach out further and further and further as well as the flight back to pick up a grain a sand from each beach from all over the planet, just to go back and stack it up on top the previous grain of sand. Now, after the task was done, consider this: That is not even the beginning of eternity!”
As you face a new week. Please, my friends, my brothers and sisters in Christ, consider the creation of God. Look up at the stars and their beauty that gives us light by night. Look at the flower, and see the beauty that is individual to itself. Consider the creation of man and woman and be amazed that such handiwork is a part of God’s mind. If you really want to know a man, consider the work he does. The same is true of our Lord, “The works of the Lord are great. Studied by all who have pleasure in them.”1 And when you study the amazing creation of God, think of the idea that our Lord has everything under control. Know that you are in the hand of the One who controls the universe. Remember, God encompasses eternity. He is beyond it, and you are His child and He will never leave you, nor, forsake you.
Prayer: Father, thank You, Lord, that You are in control of everything. Even in the moments when it seems chaos is so prevalent in our lives, we know, Father, that Your love for us is always present. We need not fret, Father, because You are the Master of the Universe and have all things under control. We need not worry, Father, because Your love is what always sustains us through the darkest of hours. Father, we give thanks for your faithfulness and kindness toward us. Please, Lord, help us see the goodness of Your creation and help us to be good stewards of the things You have placed in our charge. We give You glory, honor, praise, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
