Weekly Devotional
Faith Series: "God Is No Respecter of Persons" (Volume I Devotional #005)
“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Hebrews 11.6
Here we are at the beginning of a new week, I am often reminded of this verse in the Book of Hebrews and it truly does give me more faith. The thought that God is indebted to anyone for reward is really not possible. God owes no one anything, but in His love and goodness, we receive the blessings and joys of His many rewards to those who diligently seek Him. The Apostle Paul when speaking to the Galatians writes, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”1 I believe God wants His children to realize that He is a good God and wants to do well by His children. In fact, in the Book of Jeremiah, the Lord speaks through the prophet and says, “But let him who glories glory in this, ‘That he understands and knows Me, That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth.’ For in these I delight, says the Lord.”2 It truly is a liberating realization to know God, Who “shows personal favoritism to no man,”3 is willing to to give reward for those who believe in Him and seek Him diligently.
Look at the picture above, my beloved reader, it is an artist’s depiction of the sincere faith of George Washington, praying at Valley Forge. We know by historical account, President George Washington was a devout man of God and lover of the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ. I look upon this picture and think, if this man had only known what the fruit of his reward for diligently seeking God in his life would accomplish, he would have likely had not believed his reward would have reached 250 years. Nonetheless, here we are today reaping the benefit of the many before us who possessed sincere faith and diligently sought God in their lives.
My beloved reader, as you embark upon the new week, consider Hebrews 11.6. I want everyone to realize that God is not a respecter of persons, He takes delight in doing good for His children, and is always willing to reward anyone who seeks His Word and fellowship. I want you to realize that the good that God does in your life is not incumbent on whether you are good enough or not, realize that “there is none who does good, no not one,”4 and that the goodness of God is contingent upon His loving nature for you. You see, my brother and sister in Christ, and dear friend, God wants you to be assured that He is with you, watching over you, and always ready to reward those who diligently seek Him.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your goodness in our lives. We truly believe You exist, Father, and are a God Who exercises lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth, and we want no other God in our lives, but You, Father. We know that all the gods of men are silver and gold and are the works and thoughts of men’s creation. We know, Father, You are the beginning and the end, the Alpha and Omega, the true Morning Star of the Church, the Bride of Christ, and we, Father, acknowledge that every good and perfect thing is from You and comes down from You, Who is the Father of Lights. We love you, Lord, and ask, Father, to give us the strength and faith to stay true to our belief in Your existence in our lives and the lives of others and ask, Father, to give us a heart that stives and hungers for righteousness in our lives. Thank You, Lord, for all that You do, and will continue to do in our lives. I pray this prayer in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
